At the East Hartford Community Health Care Center today, Governor M. Jodi Rell said the state has fielded more than 8,600 phone calls from the public about her Charter Oak Health Plan since its launch on June 30.

In addition to the calls, a new Web site, www.charteroakhealthplan.com, has received over 18,000 hits and is averaging more than 1,800 visits a day.

“The response continues to be overwhelming and underscores the great need for the Charter Oak Health Plan,” Governor Rell said. “We are hearing from a wide variety of Connecticut residents - from single mothers and recent college graduates to small business employees and service industry workers.”

The Charter Oak Health Plan provides affordable health care for Connecticut’s uninsured adults who are too old for HUSKY but too young for Medicare.  It is the first health plan in the nation for the uninsured that does not require income limits, employer mandates or individual mandates.

Individual premiums range from $75 to $259 and annual deductibles range from $150 to $900.  The Governor said Charter Oak does cover people with pre-existing medical conditions.

“People want and need access to affordable health care insurance and it is obvious that they are excited about Charter Oak. It is giving Connecticut residents renewed hope,” Governor Rell said. “We really are setting a great example for the rest of the country with this initiative.”

A toll free hotline, 1-877-77-CTOAK (1-877-772-8625), has been set up for the public to get more information about Charter Oak.  The line is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.   More information and the Charter Oak application can be found at www.charteroakhealthplan.com 24 hours a day.
